Histology Supplies
In the histology profession the histotechnologist needs a variety of tools to be able to perform their job and produce a good stain for pathology.
The histotechnologist needs good quality control slides from different tissues to be able to compare the control to a specimen from a patient being diagnosed. The control slide can be from human or animals. The most use control slides are: Fite for Acid Fast Bacteria, Gram for Gram+/- Bacteria, Amoeba, Amyloid, Fungus, Helicobacter Pylori, hepatitis, Iron, Mucin, PAS, Amount, and others.
The histotechnologist needs processing/embedding tissue cassettes which can be single compartment or multi-compartment; the cassettes can be in different colors and shapes.
Coplin staining jars and dishes are needed for the staining procedure. The coplin jars hold 60 mL of solution and give the histotech the opportunity to stain ten slides. With just four ounces of solution the histotech can stain 20 slides. A dish holds 120 mls for rapid and more slide staining at the same time.
Others tools used in histology are: forceps (sterile and non-sterile), some acid resistant. Pap jars (in-situ hybridization) RNase and DNase free are useful. Of course for good storage, slide storage boxes are available in different sizes. Some boxes can hold 25 slides, 50, or 100 slides.
Last but not least the pathologist sometimes needs to mail the slide to another lab or doctor, and mailing boxes are the perfect way to do this. The mail boxes come in different sizes, from one slide to up to four slides. These tools will make the histotech's job a lot easier.
